For over 25 years, Mieke has worked at the intersection of strategy, collaboration, and change, helping organisations and coalitions translate complex ideas into action. Her strength lies in connecting people, disciplines, and incentives, and in creating the inspiration and network under which new ways of thinking can actually take root.
As Executive Director of the Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD), she leads the strategic development and international programmes focused on ecosystem services valuation and natural capital. Together with an exceptional team and a broad network of partners, she has positioned ecosystem services valuation as a practical and decision-relevant language for policy makers, financial institutions, and businesses. A key part of this work is the further development of the Ecosystem Services Valuation Database (ESVD) as a shared global knowledge infrastructure.
She is particularly motivated by moments where perspectives shift — when nature becomes visible not as a constraint or cost, but as a foundation for resilience, prosperity, and long-term value creation. This perspective has shaped her contributions to European and global forums, including speaking and convening roles at major business-and-nature events.
