Diana Chávez Vargas

Director representing Communes, Communities, Indigenous Peoples, and Nationalities - Amazon Biocorridor Fund (BCA)

Diana Chávez Vargas is a Kichwa leader from the Ecuadorian Amazon and a member of the Jatari community in the San Jacinto Commune (OTIP), Pastaza. She works at the intersection of Indigenous territorial governance, community planning, and international diplomacy, and currently serves as Director representing communes, communities, Indigenous peoples, and nationalities at the Amazon Biocorridor Fund (BCA Fund).

Diana has represented Amazonian organizations at major international forums, including UN Climate Change Conferences (COPs) and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO/OTCA). Previously, she served as Director of International Affairs for the Pastaza Kichwa Nation (PAKKIRU) and coordinated the Escuela Viva de la Amazonía (EVA), collaborating with CONFENIAE and the Sacred Headwaters Alliance to strengthen Amazonian youth leadership. She has also supported territorial governance and management processes for the Sapara and Achuar nations.

Diana holds a Master’s in Regional and Community Planning, specializing in Indigenous Planning, from the University of New Mexico, and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, both earned through scholarships. Her work bridges academic knowledge and ancestral wisdom to advance Indigenous rights and strengthen the long-term governance of Amazonian territories.
