Fisheries Improvement Fund
Unlocking finance for fisheries improvement.
A wide range of promising new technologies have been developed for fisheries improvement, delivering benefits such as reduced bycatch, improved fuel efficiency, reduced seabed impact, and improved catch monitoring. However, adoption beyond grant-funded pilots remains limited due to upfront costs and uncertain financial returns. The Fisheries Improvement Fund is developing a blended finance vehicle to accelerate technology adoption in fishing communities and unlock environmental, social and commercial benefits.
Investment & impact strategy: The FIF aims to raise a blended debt fund enabling vessel owners and seafood processors to invest in technologies that improve environmental outcomes and local livelihoods, directly supporting SDG14 (Life Under Water). Repayments combine fixed schedules and revenue sharing tailored to fisheries.
