Chief Fragility and Resilience Economist - African Development Bank

Mr. Bumi Camara is a senior development economist with over two decades of experience advancing rigorous analytical and operational approaches in fragile and conflict affected contexts. He currently serves as Chief Fragility and Resilience Economist at the African Development Bank, where he leads the Bank’s flagship fragility analytics and policy innovation agenda, including country level fragility assessments and the operationalization of the Transition Support Facility.

In this role, he has been at the forefront of designing and scaling innovative financing and allocation frameworks that address the root causes of fragility and strengthen resilience at both state and community levels. His work has been central to deepening the Bank’s evidence based understanding of fragility and translating analysis into tailored development responses in transition and frontier contexts.

Mr. Camara’s career spans research, policy, and operations across multilateral institutions, academia, and national policy settings. He holds a PhD in Development Economics from the University of Göttingen, with research focused on poverty, inequality, and development finance, and has worked extensively at the intersection of rigorous analysis and practical policy application in fragile and transition states.
