Stephen Fitzgerald

Chair - Fauna and Flora International (FFI)

Stephen is the Chair of Fauna and Flora International (FFI). FFI is the world’s oldest conservation foundation. It operates in 48 countries and is known for community led conservation and capacity building. He was the founder and CEO of Affirmative Investment Management which was acquired by MetLife of New York in 2022. AIM was a specialist impact debt manager which focused on managing debt portfolios generating mainstream financial returns as well as positive environmental impact.

He also serves on the British Museum Investment Committee and the board of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. He previously served as a member of the Board of Guardians of the Future Fund (Australia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund) and served on the ASIC Advisory Board (Australia’s financial services regulator). He also served on the boards of the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence, the NSW Treasury Expert Advisor Group for Social Impact Investment, Lombard Odier Investment Management, Goldman Sachs International and the board of QBE Insurance Group. Previously, Stephen was Co-CEO and then Chairman of Goldman Sachs, Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to this he was the CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management International (GSAMI). He joined Goldman Sachs in 1992 and was named a Managing
Director in 1998 and a Partner in 2002. He was based in London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney with Goldman Sachs. He was named as an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2019 Australia Day Honours.
