Nathalie Bernasconi-Osterwalder
Vice-President, Global Strategies and Managing Director, Europe - International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)
Nathalie Bernasconi-Osterwalder leads major new initiatives across IISD’s programs, serves as the institute’s senior leader in Europe, and heads IISD’s Economic Law and Policy program.
She has extensive legal, policy, and training experience in public and private international law, trade, investment, sustainable development, human rights, international environmental law, and international dispute settlement. Nathalie has authored and edited numerous peer-reviewed publications and collections covering diverse facets of international law. She is also a visiting professor on international investment law at the Geneva Graduate Institute and Vice-Chair of the UNECE Team of Specialists on ESG Traceability of Sustainable Value Chains in the Circular Economy.
Before joining IISD in 2009, Nathalie served as Managing Attorney at the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) in Geneva and Washington, D.C. She has also worked with the UNDP in Vietnam and held legal positions in Switzerland and Australia.
