Martine van Weelden
Director - Capitals Coalition
Martine is responsible for the successful application of capitals thinking in the private sector through the delivery of many EU-funded projects. She has 20 years of experience in the field of sustainability, ecosystem services, natural capital and organizational anthropology. Her social science expertise helps to transform the value systems that underpin our current economic system towards a system that takes the value provided by nature and people into account. She has successfully led the TEEBAgriFood for Business project that helped businesses working in the food system adopt a capitals approach. Currently, she leads the SUSTAIN project i.a., that provides financial institutions, businesses, and regulatory bodies with the knowledge and resources to better understand, assess, and monitor the dependencies and impacts on nature from activities across different sectors of the economy.
Prior to the Capitals Coalition, Martine worked as a Project & Business Development Manager for the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP). She chairs the ESP Sectoral Working Group ES in Business. Her background is in cultural anthropology, and she has a master’s degree in organisational anthropology, linking sustainable practices with culture. She is passionate about building partnerships with people from various backgrounds to support the sustainable transformation of our society.
