New tools and metrics are available for the financial sector – private and public – to assess their alignment with the goals and targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework, and to plan for a Nature Positive, Net Zero transition. This solution oriented event will highlight lessons learned from recent pilots.

Jeremy Eppel

Principal - NatureFinance

Jeremy is a Principal at NatureFinance and is the co-founder of Eppel Sustainability. He was a member of the CBD’s Expert Panel on Resource Mobilisation for the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, and has advised the World Bank’s Global Wildlife Program, the Prince of Wales’s International Sustainability Unit, UN Environment Programme, CITES and numerous public and private organisations. Until 2016, Jeremy was Deputy Director International in the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and as a Bureau member co-chaired the contact group on resource mobilisation at COP12. Jeremy also spent eight years as Environment Counsellor in the OECD.

Dr. Vian Sharif

Founder, NatureAlpha, and Global Head of Sustainability, FNZ Group - NatureAlpha

Dr Vian Sharif is founder of NatureAlpha, and Head of Sustainability at FNZ Group. She leads the development of innovative technology solutions across financial platforms to catalyse the shift to more sustainable capital allocations. She spent over a decade at global asset manager Investec. As part of a number of governmental and international sustainability advisory groups, she was a Member of the Taskforce for Nature Related Disclosures Technical Experts Scoping Group and the UK Government's Business Advisory group for the Convention on Biodiversity. She is a founder member of the Taskforce for Nature Markets and board member of Nature Finance.

José Pugas

Head of Responsible Investments and Engagement - JGP Asset Management

José Pugas is Partner and Head of Responsible Investments and Engagement at JGP Asset Management. He is a political scientist with over 15 years of experience in sustainability and finances, leading different projects in Brazil and LATAM. Currently, José Pugas is an active member of think tanks and international forums dedicated to discussing regenerative finances, nature-based solutions and just transition.

Simon Pickard

Chair of the Impact Investment Committee - Union Bancaire Privée (UBP)

Simon Pickard has become a passionate private impact investor after a career focused on equity fund management with a number of large international financial institutions including Carmignac in Paris and MAN Group and Jupiter in London. He acts as a consultant and Chair of the Impact Investment Committee for UBP in Geneva, and combines this with managing his own impact portfolio and on supporting other impact investors, including members of the global community Toniic.

Amandine Favier

Head of Sustainable Finance - WWF Switzerland

Amandine Favier is the Head of the Sustainable Finance department at WWF Switzerland. She is responsible for projects that aim to improve the integration of sustainability within the decision-making of banks, investors, financial supervisors, and regulators. In addition, her team develops solutions for a sustainable financial center. Before joining WWF in 2012, she worked for various financial institutions and also teaches Sustainable Finance and Responsible Investments at the University of Zürich and St. Gallen.

Tom Crowther

Founder and Lead Scientist - Crowther Lab

Prof Thomas Crowther is a Welsh ecologist in the Department of Global Ecosystem Ecology at ETH Zurich, where he founded Crowther Lab, an interdisciplinary group of scientists studying global ecosystems and generating knowledge to protect biodiversity and address climate change. He serves as the chair of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration advisory board and chief scientific advisor to the UN’s Trillion Trees Campaign. Crowther is the founder of Restor, a science-based open-data platform that provides ecological insights, transparency and connectivity to conservation and restoration efforts across the globe.

 

Emily McKenzie

Technical Director - TNFD

Emily McKenzie is the Technical Director at the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) since 2021. She has worked for 20 years integrating nature in policy, finance, economics and decision-making. More recently, she led the analytical team that produced the independent and global Dasgupta Review on the Economics of Biodiversity, based at HM Treasury in the UK. Previously, Ms. McKenzie was seconded to the Capitals Coalition Technical Group where she helped to develop the Natural Capital Protocol. She also worked for a decade in the WWF Global Science team, where she helped establish and lead the Natural Capital Project at Stanford University. Ms. McKenzie also contributed to the Environmental Land Management scheme in England – a major national agricultural subsidy reform programme – based at the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Other previous roles include working with the Joint Nature Conservation Committee and the Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission. Ms. McKenzie holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge and a second Master's degree in International Policy Studies from Stanford University.
