This workshop led by Arcadis in partnership with EBRD and the Landscape Finance Lab will enable participates to gain insight into approaches for valuing nature-related impacts and dependencies, as well as best practices for strengthening the value of natural capital at landscape level for their business, investments and projects and to identify and support economic activities with nature positive impacts.

Speakers:

Hannah Wood

Director Climate and Environment - UBS Optimus Foundation

Hannah is a committed and capable sustainable business and climate professional with a strong interest in nature based solutions, supporting the development of natural capital markets. She works for UBS Optimus Foundation as Director of the Climate & Environment program portfolio. Previously she held the position of Group Sustainability Lead for the Elewana Collection in East Africa and was also both Director of Shanga, an artisanal social enterprise employing people with disabilities, and GM of Land & Life Foundation, a non-profit focusing on conservation, education, wildlife and community. She worked with the FCO in Tanzania, managing climate change projects and sustainable business development for the High Commission, and also worked at the British Council, running the SubSaharan Africa Climate Change Programme across 10 countries.

Johan Lammerant

Lead Expert Natural Capital and Biodiversity - Arcadis

Johan Lammerant is lead expert in business & biodiversity, nature positive, natural capital accounting, ecosystem services, environmental impact assessment, green/blue infrastructure and Natura 2000. He is a co-author of the Natural Capital Protocol (2016). Within the EU Business & Biodiversity Platform, since 2017 he is leading the methodological work related to the assessment of available and emerging corporate biodiversity measurement approaches (Measuring your impacts and dependencies on biodiversity. He is a key technical advisor within the EU funded ALIGN project which aims to develop recommendations for an international standard on corporate biodiversity measurement and valuation.

Marshall Geck

Principal, Green Economy Specialist - European Bank for Reconstruction and development

Leads on natural capital valuation, nature data practices, and nature investing strategies at EBRD. He also reviews the Bank’s financed projects in the agribusiness, transport, and infrastructure sectors to ensure they are in accordance with the EBRD’s Paris Agreement alignment commitment and Green Economy Transition approach. Prior to EBRD, Marshall led investor engagement strategies at the UN-supported PRI as part of Climate Action 100+, the world’s largest investor engagement initiative on climate change. He holds an Msc. in Environmental Policy, University of Oxford, B.A. in English and a B.S. in Environmental Economics & Policy, University of California at Berkeley.

Paul Chatterton

Lead and Founder - Landscape Finance Lab

Specialist in the fields of sustainability, climate change, land use and biodiversity, he set up the Lab, initially through WWF, to support a global community innovating on landscape solutions. Paul has catalysed results including the first provincial scale forest and climate (REDD+) program in Africa, Europe's longest river protected area and the largest rainforest reserve in the Pacific. Paul holds a Masters Degree with merit in Anthropology / Development Studies and a Diploma in Management. He co-authored the Little Sustainable Landscape Book and is co-initiator of Meridia (www.meridia.land), a mobile app to provide affordable land tenure to rural communities.

Angelika Delen is Mercer’s Global Head of Impact Investing and Europe Strategic Research Director, her goal is to develop and offer profitable strategies and portfolios for institutional investors and create measurable value for people and planet.

Owen Bethell

Environmental Impact Lead Global Public Affairs - Nestlé

Owen leads Nestlé’s global climate change, nature and water related advocacy, communications and engagement activities. In this role, Owen advises and guide’s Nestlé interactions with multi-lateral institutions, business associations, the voluntary sector and governments on the environmental agenda – supporting the company’s aim to advance regenerative food systems at scale. Prior to taking on this role, Owen headed up Nestlé’s global issue and crisis management function. Before joining Nestlé, Owen advised clients in the food, agriculture and health sectors on corporate communications and public affairs programs.

Chantal van Ham

Senior Biodiversity and Natural Capital Expert - Arcadis

Chantal has expertise in awareness raising and capacity building for upscaling the implementation of Nature-based Solutions, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration, and stakeholder engagement. Her focus of work is the integration of the value of nature in the strategy and decision making processes of financial institutions. Chantal has extensive knowledge about EU and international policy developments related to biodiversity, natural resources, forest and land use, and sustainable finance. She supports governments, cities and the private sector on their path to a sustainable future and to mainstream the value of nature in decision making and practice for society and the economy.
