Data from the World Inequality Report reveals that the top 10% of the highest earners in the world currently possess 76% of all wealth, whereas the bottom 50% owns merely 2%. These disparities pose a threat to the stability of our societies, political systems, and economies. In fact, Moody’s estimated that over $8 trillion of the debt it rates is highly susceptible to social risks, with an additional $2 trillion facing environmental risks. For the private sector, tackling systemic social inequality is not just a moral imperative but also strategic risk management.
This session will initiate a discussion to investigate ways for the private sector to enhance the formulation of financial disclosures on inequalities, aiming to fortify the stability of financial systems and enhance outcomes for people. The Business Commission to Tackle Inequality (BCTI) will subsequently convene to commit to action.
This event, co-organized with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Business Commission to Tackle Inequality, will be held during the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland) at the House of Switzerland. The event is on invitation only.

Immediately prior to joining the Accountability Mechanism, Ms. Székely served as the Senior Advisor and Coordinator in the Executive Office of the Secretary General, with responsibility for enhancing good governance, at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. Ms. Székely also previously worked as senior advisor with communities and high-level stakeholders in India, Myanmar, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan, and on projects in Bangladesh and Nepal, among several other positions.
