WWF Study on the Impacts of Insurance on Biodiversity and Climate

After a short introduction to our new study which systematically analyses the impacts (both positive and negative, direct and indirect) of the insurance sector on biodiversity and climate, a fishbowl discussion is facilitated. Participants are encouraged to discuss the implementation of specific concepts and recommendations highlighted in the report.

Speakers:

Amandine Favier

Head of Sustainable Finance - WWF Switzerland

Amandine Favier is the Head of the Sustainable Finance department at WWF Switzerland. She is responsible for projects that aim to improve the integration of sustainability within the decision-making of banks, investors, financial supervisors, and regulators. In addition, her team develops solutions for a sustainable financial center. Before joining WWF in 2012, she worked for various financial institutions and also teaches Sustainable Finance and Responsible Investments at the University of Zürich and St. Gallen.

Jerome Crugnola-Humbert

Director Sustainability Services - Deloitte AG

Jérôme Crugnola-Humbert is a financial engineer and actuary who specializes in sustainable finance. He joined Deloitte in 2021 as Sustainability Services Director in Switzerland, following a 20-year career in banking, consulting and insurance (including with the EU institutions, where he helped develop European sustainable finance policy). Jérôme also chairs the sustainability and climate risks group at the Actuarial Association of Europe.

 

Lea Müller

Head of Agriculture Risk Modelling - SCOR SE

Lea Mueller has more than 10 years’ experience in reinsurance, sustainability, natural catastrophe modelling and climate change adaptation. She is Head of Agriculture Risk Modelling at SCOR and together with her team responsible for accurate pricing of worldwide agriculture reinsurance business for SCOR. Previously Lea was Head of Consulting at CelsiusPro, where with her team she consulted clients from the public and private sectors on climate, agricultural and natural catastrophe risks worldwide. Lea has spent 8 years at Swiss Re and acted as Climate Change Specialist and Natural Hazards Expert to create tailored insurance solutions for the public sector.

Stephan Kellenberger

Deputy Head of Sustainable Finance - WWF Switzerland

Stephan Kellenberger is deputy head of sustainable finance at WWF Switzerland where he is leading the work on national regulation and policy. He previously served as a Swiss diplomat and was involved in international climate negotiations. He has a background in politics and economics and has taken advanced training in sustainable finance.

Diana Diaz

PSI Programme Supervisor - UNEP FI

Diana is a seasoned professional with a passion for sustainability and a proven track record of success in driving positive change in the industry. As the Programme Supervisor of the UN Environment Programme’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative (PSI), she oversees the largest collaboration between the UN and the insurance industry, which has been endorsed by the UN Secretary-General and industry CEOs. Through her role, Diana has made a significant impact in the industry, including co-leading the establishment of the world’s largest insurance commitment to net zero emissions, the Net Zero Insurance Alliance (NZIA).

Sylvain Coutu

Head of Agriculture and Nature Insurance - AXA Climate

Sylvain is Head of Agriculture and Nature Insurance at AXA Climate. His role is to develop new products around parametric and hybrid insurance, with a special focus on insuring risks related to the agriculture transition, such as a change in farming practices. Sylvain and his team work with all sorts of data and technology, from satellite for crop monitoring to e-DNA for biodiversity estimates. Previously, Sylvain worked as an agriculture underwriter and Head of Innovation Special Lines at Swiss Re. Sylvain is also the Chair of NASA Harvest Agriculture Finance and holds a PhD in environmental risk management from EPFL.
