This plenary will examine how asset owners need to anchor sustainable and climate-friendly investment strategies to achieve the necessary long-term returns and by taking an active role in the companies they own to steer sectors toward a lower-carbon transition. Yet asset owners need to align their underlying investments with values and preferences of their beneficiaries and finding the right balance between social and environmental responsibility and fiduciary duty to maximize returns on behalf of beneficiaries has its hurdles, challenges and, of course, rewards and opportunities.

Laurent Ramsey

Managing Partner - Pictet

Laurent Ramsey is a Managing Partner of Pictet Group and the Co-Chief Executive Officer of Pictet Asset Management. He is also the Vice-President of the Geneva Financial Center (FGPF) and on the Board of the Asset Management Association Switzerland (AMAS). Mr. Ramsey has more than 20 years’ experience in the asset management industry, including 16 in the areas of pensions and distribution. Two years after joining the Pictet's Geneva Office as an Equity Analyst, he was sent to Asia where he worked as a Senior Investment Manager in Hong Kong and Singapore. He was then put in charge of institutional business development for the region and appointed Executive Director of Pictet Asia. Mr. Ramsey came back to Geneva in 2000 as Head of Marketing & Sales of Pictet Funds. He became CEO of the division in 2004. In 2010, following the merger of Pictet Funds and Pictet Asset Management into one business line, he was appointed Global Head of Distribution of Pictet Asset Management. Mr. Ramsey holds a Bachelors and Masters in International Management from HEC Lausanne School of Business and Economics as well as a Federal Diploma for Financial Analyst and Portfolio Manager.

Sonja Gibbs

Managing Director and Head of Sustainable Finance - Institute of International Finance

Sonja Gibbs leads the Institute of International Finance's (IIF) work on sustainable finance and sovereign debt policy, focusing on research and advocacy for the Institute’s global membership across the financial services  industry. Her research interests include the economic impact and financial market pricing of climate and ESG risks, sustainable investment and capital markets development in emerging markets. Ms. Gibbs oversees the IIF Weekly Insight, which offers a concise perspective on global financial markets with an ESG lens, and the IIF Global Debt Monitor, which looks across mature and emerging economies for debt-related vulnerabilities such as the rapid buildup in EM corporate debt levels. She also serves on  the boards of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (IC-VCM), and of Egypt’s Regional Center for Sustainable Finance (RCSF).  Ms. Gibbs has spent over 20 years in banking and financial markets, most recently with Nomura International in London, where she was Chief Equity Strategist. Earlier positions include stints as a U.S. economist and bank credit analyst in New York and Los Angeles. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), has an MBA and BA from the University of California, Berkeley.

Andreas Ernst

Head, Endowment Responsible Investment - Constanter

Andreas Ernst leads the Constanter Endowment's  Responsible Investment strategy across all asset classes. He also manages the Skopos Impact Funds, a sizeable direct impact investing portfolio focused on European lower-mid market companies in sectors such as the circular economy and clean energy.  With 20 years in private equity, impact investing and sustainable investing, he built and led the Impact Investing offering at UBS globally. He has held over 40 board and advisory positions in diverse entities. His passion lies in building sustainable and impactful companies, relying on evidence and facts. Recognized as a first-generation sustainable & impact investor, he is fluent in six languages, and has lived in 5 different countries.

Constanter is a private, independent charitable foundation endowment and part of a network of philanthropic organizations set up by the Brenninkmeijer family business owners in service of the common good.

Aaron Bennett

Chief Investment Officer - University Pension Plan Ontario (UPP)

Aaron Bennett is UPP’s Chief Investment Officer and leads all aspects of UPP's global investment strategy and operations. A seasoned investor, Mr. Bennett has expertise in strategic asset allocation, responsible investing, and risk management. Across his previous roles at Jarislowsky Fraser Global Investment Management, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, and Canadian investment banks, Mr. Bennett has supported systemic and robust investment analysis, policy formulation, and strategic implementation across portfolios and asset classes. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Queen’s University, an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at Western University, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Stephanie Pfeifer

Chief Executive - Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC)

Stephanie Pfeifer has led IIGCC since 2005 and has overseen its expansion into a European-focused investor group. She sits on the Steering Committees for Climate Action 100+, the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative, and the Investor Agenda, as well as the Executive Committee for the Paris Aligned Asset Owners. Prior to her role at IIGCC, Stephanie Pfeifer worked in investment banking for over seven years, including as a senior economist at Morgan Grenfell and a VP at Deutsche Bank in London. She holds an MSc with distinction in Environmental Studies, a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University, and an MA in Economics from Exeter University and she received an OBE for her services to climate finance in Her Majesty the Queen's Jubilee Birthday Honours List in 2022.

Equity Partner - Pictet

Niall Quinn is Equity Partner, Global Head of Institutional Business and a member of the Executive Committee of Pictet Asset Management. He has responsibility for institutional client business development and relationship management.
Before joining Pictet in 2016, Mr. Quinn was Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Eaton Vance International, responsible for all of the firm’s operations outside of North America, with a particular focus on institutional business development. Prior to that, he was Head of Business Development at Gartmore Investment where he was responsible for Europe. Mr. Quinn began his career at First Quadrant before spending seven years at Goldman Sachs. He graduated from Trinity College, University of Dublin with a BA in Economics & Philosophy and holds the Investment Management Certificate.
