Paolo Bortolin

Paolo Bortolin is Director of Business Development and Senior Relationship Manager at BIL Suisse Private Bank in Lugano, where he focuses on relationships with HNWIs, entrepreneurs, family offices and external asset managers, with a particular emphasis on blockchain and digital assets entrepreneurs.

He is a finance executive with extensive experience in banking, treasury and digital finance. Previously, as Deputy CFO of the City of Lugano, he played a pioneering role in the issuance of the World’s first native digital municipal bond on blockchain and subsequently led multiple digital bond issuances, positioning Lugano as a global reference in this field. He also helped integrate Bitcoin and digital assets into public services as part of the Lugano Plan ₿ initiative.

Earlier in his career, Paolo served as Head of Retail Banking for Southern Switzerland at PostFinance and as Treasurer of the Republic and Canton of Ticino. He has also been involved in fintech and Web3 initiatives as a founder and advisor to companies operating in this space, and serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Global Institute on Innovation Districts Europe. Paolo holds a degree in Business Management, with a major in Finance, from the University of Fribourg and an MBA from UC Berkeley.
