Ntsako Maphosa

Director of Finances - City of Johannesburg

Mr Ntsako Maphosa has more than 13 years of professional experience in municipal finance and currently serves as Director of Finance in the Environment, Infrastructure and Services Department within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. His portfolio supports key municipal functions, including Energy, Waste Management, Water and Biodiversity, and Air Quality & Climate Change.

He specialises in municipal financial reporting, budgeting, revenue & expenditure management, asset management, and supply chain management. He also serves as a climate finance lead for the City of Johannesburg supporting the development of implementation-ready, bankable climate projects and the mobilisation of climate finance.

Mr Maphosa holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Venda (South Africa) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Accounting from the University of South Africa. He completed short courses, including Municipal Standard Chart of Accounts, Accessing Urban Climate Finance, Ethics in the Public Service, Municipal Financial Management for Finance Executives, and Detection and Prevention of Procurement Fraud.

He is passionate about municipal infrastructure, particularly the impairment of assets, the review of useful lives, and the integration of green-grey infrastructure and nature-based solutions to day-to-day asset management.
