Emerging markets represent a significant investment opportunity for long-term investors, particularly in sectors such as foundational infrastructure, agribusiness, value added manufacturing, tourism, and health that are linked to economic development and climate transition. However, barriers related to risk perception, pipeline access, and market complexity continue to limit institutional participation. As part of ongoing reform efforts, MDBs have been developing new structures, investment platforms, and risk-sharing approaches enabling institutional investors to access commercially viable opportunities while benefiting from the expertise and track record of development finance institutions.
