Scaling private investment into nature: Lessons from nature investment vehicles and disclosure trends

Scaling funding for nature is key to support climate adaptation, address biodiversity loss and nature degradation, and provide economic resilience and sustainable development. Despite growing interest in nature finance, barriers to mobilising large-scale private finance remain, including perceived high risks, a lack of evidence of return on investment, and a lack of data for effective decision-making. As a result, investment remains far below what is needed to address biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation.

Emerging evidence from LSE’s Earth Capital Nexus provides insight into where capital is flowing, how investment vehicles are structured, and which mechanisms are most effective in attracting private investors. The findings highlight the growing role of blended finance, the importance of de-risking mechanisms, and the need for disclosure requirements to accommodate diverse decision-making processes.
