Transformative Finance Specialist - Green Digital Finance Alliance (GDFA)

Alexander Wiese is a Transformative Finance Specialist at Green Digital Finance Alliance where he develops and tests scalable approaches to mobilising finance for climate, nature and sustainable development. His work spans blended finance, risk-sharing mechanisms, thematic bonds and outcome-based finance, with focus on developing replicable financing models, applied research and tools helping address barriers to capital mobilisation.

Alexander has 20 years’ experience across investment banking, sustainable finance and international development finance. Before joining GDFA, he advised municipalities, governments, development institutions and financial institutions on sovereign SDG, green and blue bonds, blended finance facilities, guarantees, debt-for-nature and debt-for-climate approaches, and other sustainable finance instruments. His work included engagements with UNDP, UNEP FI, ADB, the World Bank, EIB, GIZ, ministries of finance and environment in emerging markets. Transactions included a USD 650 million sovereign SDG bond for Uzbekistan and Fiji’s blue bond programme.

Previously, Alexander was Managing Director and Global Head of Biodiversity, Food and Agriculture Finance at Bankers without Boundaries, where he also led sustainable finance work with cities incl. Lisbon, Milan, Sofia and Vienna. Earlier, he held senior structuring roles at Credit Suisse and Barclays, covering cross-asset solutions, institutional investors, asset-liability management and risk management.
